Campaign and long-term progression

Your campaign keeps the consequences

100 major missions across 10 arcs, with freeform play around them. Failure changes your route without rewriting your history.

A small team reviews routes, evidence and objectives around a planning table.

What this means for your play

Choices with practical meaning.

The campaign provides a spine, not rails. Across 100 major missions and 10 arcs, one character develops through a world shaped by accumulated decisions. CYBERTECH is designed for roughly two years of sustained progression.

Continue without pretending you succeeded

A legal failure may change the campaign without permanently dead-ending it. Failed missions, lost rewards, missed qualifications, debt and damaged standing remain recorded. A different recovery route keeps play moving from that state, rather than placing you back on a perfect timeline.

See growth in the solutions available to you

Over time, basic transport can become operational mobility, outside dependence can become self-sufficiency and limited facilities can become a developed Carrier. More capability gives you legitimate choices. Resources, specialists, money and time can still matter even after months of growth.

In depth

How it works.

Follow the part that interests you. These systems continue to matter as your character and operation grow.

Failure changes your campaign. It does not erase it.

CYBERTECH has been built around a demanding rule: A legal failure may change the campaign, but it must not permanently dead-end the campaign.

  • That does not mean failure is fake.
  • A FAILED mission remains FAILED.
  • Lost objectives remain lost.
  • Lost rewards remain lost.
  • Failed qualifications remain failed.
  • Missing resources remain missing.
  • Standing that was lost must be earned back.
  • A grant that was lost remains lost.
  • A mission abandoned by the player remains abandoned.
  • A missed deadline still counts as failure.

The campaign continues through consequences rather than rewriting history.

Sometimes the world solves the problem, not you.

If the player has legitimately exhausted every available attempt and a later dependency still needs to be resolved, CYBERTECH can use real outside help.

  • That help must come from a real provider.
  • It must have a real cost.
  • The player's failure remains recorded.
  • The narrator does not pretend the player succeeded.
  • Examples can include:

A specialist laboratory performing analysis the player could not complete. A contractor recovering material after the player's salvage attempts failed. A licensed professional performing work the player is not qualified to perform. A supplier importing scarce materials. A sponsor providing alternate finance. Outside help keeps the world moving without turning failure into success.

You can miss your chance. The world continues.

  • Accepted missions can fail because of time.
  • Missions can be abandoned.
  • Offers can expire.
  • These are real events.
  • A missed deadline closes FAILED.
  • An abandoned mission closes FAILED.

Objectives and rewards that were not earned remain lost. An expired offer may be offered again later rather than permanently deleting the campaign. The next part of the story then has to work with the state you actually created.

What you do now can matter much later.

CYBERTECH has been built to allow consequences to travel through the campaign. A failed extraction can create a material shortage several missions later. A lost grant can affect whether you can finance an upgrade. Lost standing can prevent access until it is genuinely rebuilt. A missed week of monitoring can mean later data simply does not exist. A failed qualification can keep an institution at a lower capability.

A deadline can push machinery beyond its maintenance interval. A failure can change the version of the campaign you experience without ending it.

100 major missions are the backbone, not the boundary.

CYBERTECH's campaign contains 100 major authored missions across 10 arcs. They provide structure, progression, major events and long-term direction. But the player can spend substantial time between and around those missions dealing with the world created by their own decisions and circumstances.

  • Resources need sourcing.
  • Technology needs configuring.
  • Specialists need finding.
  • Money needs earning.
  • Carrier systems need developing.
  • Relationships evolve.
  • Transport is required.
  • Repairs happen.
  • Projects take time.
  • Opportunities emerge.
  • The campaign gives you direction.

The systems give you a world to live in.

Built for a long campaign, not a weekend.

CYBERTECH has been designed around roughly two years of sustained play and progression. That allows development to mean more than increasing statistics.

  • Over time the player can move from:
  • Limited resources to strategic resource control.
  • Basic transport to major operational mobility.
  • External dependence to increasing self-sufficiency.
  • Restricted cybernetic options to highly specialised configurations.
  • Limited facilities to a fully developed Command Carrier.

Basic relationships to long histories with people and organisations. Small choices to accumulated consequences that define the player's version of the world. The player should be able to look back months later and remember how restricted their character once was.

Failure can create a genuinely different campaign.

Two players do not have to arrive at the same final state. One may achieve a qualification another never earns. One institution may reach a higher tier than another.

  • One player may have debt.
  • Another may have preserved their grants.
  • One may have an unresolved investigation.
  • Another may have verified it.
  • One may have used contractors repeatedly.
  • Another may have personally completed the work.

The campaign can continue in all of those states. The objective is not to force everyone back onto the same perfect timeline. The objective is to make each timeline legitimate.

A concrete example

Outside help, with a real cost

You have exhausted your legitimate attempts, but later work still depends on resolving the problem. A contractor, laboratory, licensed professional, importer or sponsor can offer a real route forward. The provider and cost must exist. Your original failure remains a failure, and the recovery becomes part of your campaign.
